Refreshing Mozart Concertos from Anderszewski

Mozart: Piano Concertos Nos. 25 & 27

Chamber Orchestra of Europe, (conductor) Piotr Anderszewski (piano)

This is the Polish pianist Piotr Anderszewski’s third CD of Mozart Piano Concertos and once again he is with a different orchestra; this time it is the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.

Anderszewski states that he understands Mozart piano concertos as chamber works and this certainly comes across in this recording. In each work there is an obvious understanding between the soloist and the members of the CoE who are clearly in harmony with each other and deliver remarkably unified performances of these two famous concertos. Anderszewski performs his own cadenza in the  Piano Concerto No. 25 in C major, K503 but utilizes Mozart’s own in the Piano Concerto No. 27 in B flat major, K595. Despite having heard to these popular works a great many times, on listening to this recording it was if I was hearing each work anew, so refreshing is Piotr Anderszewski’s pianism and direction. This combined with the well balanced fine sounding recording make this a well deserved 4 star release.
